I always say that I never really knew what real ashiness was until I lived through an east coast winter. You know, that kind of ashiness where it doesn’t matter how much lotion you just put on; as soon as you walk outside and look at the crease of your hand, it seems as if you’ve been playing in flour.
I’ve always been strict about moisturizing as soon as I get out the shower with a light to medium lotion. But in cold winters like this, that alone does not cut it. I find that I need to switch to richer formulas for my regular lotion routine AND complement that with special creams for my hands and feet.
Here are three lotion and skin creams lines that do an amazing job of moisturizing my skin and fighting ashiness during cold dry winters.
OYIN HANDMADE “No Ash At All” Lotion + Whipped Shea
What more can you ask for than a product called “No Ash At All” by Oyin Handmade! I apply No Ash right after the shower when my body is lightly towel dried. About 20-minutes later, I slather the Oyin Handmade Whipped Shea on my hands and feet to seal in the moisture on those particularly dry areas. I also recommend leaving a bottle of No Ash on your desk at work to re-apply as needed throughout the day.
SHEA MOISTURE Body Lotion + Intensive Hydration Hand Cream
Shea Moisture makes some of my favorite products for both hair and body. With such rich and varied lines to choose from, I almost feel guilty for breaking them up and using products from two different ones. But if it works, its works! I apply the Shea Moisture Olive Oil & Green Tea Body Lotion right after the shower. I also apply the Shea Moisture Manuka Honey & Manfura Oil Intensive Hydration Cream (my that’s a mouthful) to my hands and my feet to again seal in moisture. And I leave the tube in my purse to apply throughout the day if needed.
NIVEA Essentially Enriched Body Lotion + Cream
Nivea is one of those age old moisturizing products I’ve been using as long as I can remember. And the brand has never done me wrong. Their formulas are so rich and are some of the best at moisturizing ash-prone skin. The Nivea Essentially Enriched Body Lotion is what I slather on right after the shower and the Nivea Creme is great for added moisture on me hands and feet.
So there you have it ladies! I’d recommend trying one of these lines, or all of them if you want to beat winter dryness and ashy skin once and for all.
