What do you do when you have less than 3 days to throw a themed outfit together for a star-studded event, yet you have nothing in your closet to match the occasion, and on top of that zero time to roam the streets combing store racks for an outfit?
Last weekend, I was invited to The Hamptons for Russell Simmons’ annual Art For Life charity gala. I was stoked to get an invitation but soon panicked when I realized the event was mere days away and I had nothing to wear for the dress-code that called for 1920’s attire. Starlets like Ava Duvernay, Angela Simmons, Soledad O’brien and even Dave Chapelle were going to be in attendance…so I had to come correct.
I’d been hearing more and more about Amazon.com’s new and improved fashion section. So, in my time of need, I decided to give it a whirl to build an outfit for the first time. I can find almost anything else in the world I need on Amazon, and get it delivered in 2 days or less for free (upgrading to Prime earlier this year was like the best investment ever!), so I prayed it Amazon wouldn’t let me down this time.
I was looking for something that didn’t scream “costume”, but rather an outfit that gave off 20’s flair without looking like I was dressing up for Halloween. Amazon did not disappoint. With some strategic searching, I came across a perfect-for-the-occasion BCBG dress and headpiece, which together cost me less than $75!
The outfit came together so well that I was even featured on Essence.com style recap of the event!
Oh and did I mention most of Amazon Fashion options come with free and painless returns as well. I initially ordered 2 of the dresses, one in small, one in medium, because I wasn’t sure which would fit under my tight timeline. I simply returned the one that did not fit and got my money back the same week. Easy-peasy.
