Three words I always use to describe my style are “colors, prints and thrifts.” New Yorkers are known for their black and muted style preferences. Not I though. Looking through my closet choosing my outfits for the ColorComm Conference last week confirmed just how accurate my personal style statement is.
My suitcase included every color of the rainbow. Here’s what I wore over the past few days.
I’ll start with the fan favorite from my Instagram, this dress given to me by up-and-coming Harlem based and West African-inspired designer Moi By Yaa. The line boasts Ankara prints with custom fit. And I just love their brand moto, “Always strive to be the best version of yourself…Because Being You Never Goes Out of Style.”
One can never have too much Ankara prints packed. And Claire Sulmers of the Fashion Bomb Daily, who was also at the conference in Ankara by DPiperTwins, agreed. She and her photographer, Karl, were there snapping pics for her site and I was lucky enough to be featured on one of her ‘real style’ posts on FBD.
I rocked this African inspired skirt by another one of my favorite Harlem-based lines, Beriqisu.
This cocktail dress from H&M was also a hit. I loved the draped and asymmetric shape.
