It’s Black Friday, but today, the last thing I want to do is go fight my way into some crowded, massive retailer to buy stuff I really don’t need in the name of a good deal. Instead I’m on the couch watching The True Cost on Netflix, an eye-opening documentary that explores the true impact of fashion on people and our planet—a film which every style/fashion lover should watch.
This week I’m feeling more informed and empowered to make wiser choices with my own buying habits, in part by supporting more small, consciously run businesses this holiday season.
On Sunday, I’m heading over to Sugar Hill Market, a boutique artisan popup shop in a Harlem brownstone art gallery that features over a dozen local designers from fashion, beauty, home decor and more. Here are just a few of the small businesses I’m looking forward to checking out and supporting at the market this weekend:
