One of the reasons I love living in Harlem is that there are so many locally owned businesses to support—from restaurants to beauty salons to toy stores. Grandma’s Place is a Harlem based toy and book store that I can’t help peer into every time I walk by. The store caters to customers and clients from every walk of life, especially children of color. I guess you can say the store brings out the kid in me, too, because I was inspired to throw on one of my favorite dresses full of my favorite childhood colors for a quick little shoot.

This dress is from my go-to vintage store, Jewel’s Vintage Closet. I’ve purchased a number of pieces from Jewel since discovering her shop late last year, including this stunning dress and this tribal skirt.
The shoes are from Sarah Jessica Parker’s line, SJP, which is sold exclusively at Nordstrom. They’re such a classic style, but the pop of color purple color adds a little modern flair.
With the holidays not too far off, I can’t wait to buy Christmas presents for some of the little people in my life at this Harlem staple. Grandma’s Place is located at 84 W. 120th St., just off of Lenox.
