Eye-catching outfits don’t stop with the clothes alone. In my world, accessorizing is a must. It doesn’t always have to be a statement necklace, though. Sometimes the best accessory of all is a well-groomed, pop-of-color nail to pull the entire look together.
Recently, I learned about a new line of nail lacquers designed to not only help women look good, but also feel good from the inside out. Needless to say, I was hooked.
On The Verj is a nail polish line by Kristen Kenner, a 23-year old Brooklynite who got the idea for her nail line while in a business class at her alma mater Temple University. A life-long nail polish fanatic who owns no less than 100 bottles of polish at any given time, Kristen knew a thing or two about what makes a good lacquer. It not only has to check the box for being an eye-catching color and long-lasting formula, she also wanted to introduce a line that was free from many of the harmful chemicals that many commercial brands include (On The Verj is proudly five-free).
So after meeting Kristen at a business networking event a few months ago, and expressing my love for all things style and beauty, she kindly sent me a few colors from her spring/summer and fall/winter lines to try out. It was love at first paintbrush stroke.
I was initially impressed by how smoothly the polish went on. I didn’t get that streaky look that I often get when applying the first coat of other polishes. The first coat was vibrant, smooth and provided complete coverage, so much so that you really don’t even need a second coat if you don’t want to apply one. It seemed to be the combination of the quality brush the polish came with and the polish formula.
The colors were also a plus for me, which Kristen concocted herself. I’ve now worn 4 of the 6 polishes On The Verj colors I have and I love each and every one of them. Many of the shades in the new fall/winter line have a shimmer base, which is perfect for this festive time of year. I’m typically into more matte looking colors because the glitter granules in a lot of shimmer polishes can sometimes be so big they over power the true hue of the color. That wasn’t the case with this brand though. And on the weeks I didn’t want shimmer , On The Verj still had me covered with reds, blues, nudes and more that were also gorgeous.
And did I mention the staying power! My nail painting days are usually Thursdays while watching #TGIT. And each week I’ve been able to get at least 5 days, usually more, of no-chip nails with On The Verj, while simply using a regular 99 cent top coat from the corner beauty supply. That’s more chip-free time than I typically get from that other line I’ve also used that starts with an E.
Aside from the colors and quality though, what I really love about On The Verj is that I’m supporting a #SmartBrownGirl, just like me, whose mission is bigger than the bottles of polish she sells. Kristen says that, at it’s core, On The Verj is a women’s empowerment brand that’s committed to supporting and giving back to other women and girls. For example, during prom season, Kristen and her team hosted manicure parties for high school girls who otherwise may not have been able to afford to get their nails done for that important day. With one of my biggest passions being helping to advance women and girls, On The Verj is definitely my new go-to nail polish brand. I’m so inspired by Kristen and everything she and her brand stand for.
On The Verj nail polish can be purchased online here. And the fall/winter line that I love so much will be available in the coming weeks, so make sure to also follow On The Verj on Instagram for product announcements as well as nail art inspiration.
