When it comes to hair products, I usually stick to what I know works. I’m no product junkie. I feel like if a product gives me the results I’m looking for, why try to fix what’s not broken? Cantu Shea Butter has been a staple brand in my cabinet since I’ve been natural. When I had longer hair, I swore by their Leave In Conditioning Cream for my twist outs.
I recently learned about a newer curl defining product that they have for girls like me who subscribe to a wash & go regimen. Since I love this brand, I decided to give Cantu Shea Butter’s Moisturizing Curl Activator Cream a test drive.
Read on for my review of the product:
What It Is: Cantu Shea Butter Moisturizing Curl Activator Cream
What It Does: According to the product website, this product defines, moisturizes and restores curls, leaving them smooth, frizz free and full of life.
Primary Ingredients: Shea Butter. Various oils such as coconut, jojoba, avocado and almond. The product contains both natural and man-made ingredients like glycerin and alcohol.
Price Range: $5.99
How I Used It: I use this for my weekly wash & go. I did the same exact process I write about in my wash & go regimen post. This time however, I used this product as my curl definer. In order to achieve the defined wash and go look I like, a good curl cream is absolutely essential.
What I thought: (+) = good (*) = not good or bad (-) = ehhh…not so hot
(+) This product smells so good you want to eat it. Absolutely divine!
(+) This is a true curl definer/enhancer. I applied to dripping wet hair and it defined and locked in my natural curl pattern to perfection.
(+) In addition to defining, this product also has great hold. My curls were firm when I finished my wash & go process (not crunchy). And they lasted beautifully all week.
(+) The consistency of this product is great. Not too thick, not too thin. It does not leave any heavy residue and is not sticky once it dries.
(+) Worked great with the other products I apply before and after my definer, my Deva Curl leave in conditioner and EcoStyler Gel.
(+) The amount of product you get for the price! The bottle is 12oz for only $5.99, which I can see lasting me almost the whole year since I only wash once a week.
The Verdict: I really don’t have anything bad to say about product whatsoever. I loved my results. The Cantu Shea Butter Curl Activator Cream worked like a charm and has actually knocked my beloved Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie out the top spot for a curl definer. It’s my new go-to product!
