I’ve been a lover of accessories for as long as I can remember. In fact, when I was younger and it was chore time, I always wanted to be the one assigned to straighten up my parents’ room because my mom had a lovely collection of necklaces, earrings, purses and shoes that I got a kick out of trying on and experimenting with as I ‘dusted’ them.
One of the best ways to spicen up a neutral piece or give one of your old outfits new life is to add some different accessories into your wardrobe mix.
During a recent afternoon out in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, I found a way to add some pizazz to a regular black outfit using some of my favorite accessories from my collection.
I was on the fence about these new sunnies I picked up from Forever 21. At first, I thought they made me look like a bug, but adding a pop-of-color lip transformed them into something super fierce.
The earrings from 2 Lite Creations that I purchased at a Curly Girl Collective event have quickly become my favorite in my collection. They’re super versatile, getting play everywhere from date night to a casual day in the office.
The belt I picked up at the Goodwill a few months back when I was visiting my family in L.A. I love the gold and silver accents and for a mere $4, it was a steal to say the least.
I refer to these shoes from Zara as the “Party On My Feet”. When you live in a city where your feet are you main mode of transportation, the stacked heel makes them ideal for walking a couple blocks while still being fashionable & cute. And the the sparkles on the heels just scream a good time in the making (though I’ve also found ways to make them office appropriate as well).
