Thumbing through my closet the other day, I realized that I had a great story to tell behind pretty much every great garment that hung within its walls. Take this dress I got from South Africa for example.
For me, international excursions aren’t just for exploring new things and expanding one’s horizons. They’re also for shopping! So, on my trip to South Africa with Black Girl Travel last year, I stopped by an outdoor artisans market in the heart of Cape Town where I came across this unique handmade African print dress.
I took some time to chat it up with the lovely Zimbabwean lady that crafted the piece. She shared that she was staying with her daughter in South Africa for the month and decided to bring her entrepreneurial venture with her and make the most of her trip–a woman after my own heart.
I also purchased this beaded necklace at a little cultural center outside of the city. It was quite a treat to observe the local ladies design these gorgeous pieces as I looked on.
