Here in NYC, fall is finally in full swing. The temps are cooler and the air is a little drier, and luckily I’ve mentally prepared myself and my beauty products for what’s to come.
Pretty much year-round my favorite lipstick is MAC’s Ruby Woo. There’s something about a matte red lip that makes me feel like a natural woman. For the fall though, I wanted to find a deeper shade of red—more like a red wine color—that’s a little more in-tune with the season. My one requirement, it had to be matte.
So, I raided the MAC counter as well as Sephora, but could not find anything that worked. If it was matte, it looked too close to the Ruby Woo I already had and loved, and if it was a deep wine color, it was a satin finish (satin reds make me feel like I’m playing dress-up in my mom’s makeup…not what I’m going for). Sensing defeat, I did a quick Google search for “matte red wine lip” and stumbled upon Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lip Color in Divine Wine. The color seemed perfect, and the reviews I read that noted it wasn’t as drying to the lips as other matte finishes was my cue to head over to CVS to pick up my own tube. I absolutely LOVE it!
Now, since we’re on the subject of lips, we all know that in the fall and winter our lips can take a turn for the worse if they’re not cared for properly. The weather can cause drying, cracking and peeling (so NOT SEXY!), and the lipsticks we women often wear can sometimes exasperate the problem.
I’ve always been a lip balm junkie, no matter what climate I’m in, because I think that one of the sexiest things about a woman, or a man for that matter, is their lips. I have a tube of lip balm in every pocket, purse and room and I apply religiously throughout the day. One day recently, me and my blogger buddy Melissa Chanel were out having drinks when we met a young fellow Harlemite Timothy George who created his own line of 100% organic and handmade lip care products called eLo Lip Care….
