After 5 months of different types of protective styling, it’s finally time to let my natural hair breathe again. So, over the weekend, I dedicated Saturday to braid take down and wash day.
Since I’m letting my tapered cut grow out, I was more than a little concerned about whether my curl pattern would emerge from a wash and go since my hair is longer now. You see, the longer my hair gets, the harder it is to get my curls to pop from water and product alone. I don’t have the patience for twist outs everyday; that’s the main reason I chopped my hair off to begin with. So, in order for this grow out journey to continue, a wash and go that will last at least 5 days is a must.
I decided to try some all-new products specifically for curls and kinks from MIZANI True Textures line. And, girl, was I impressed.
Here’s what I used to achieve my wash and go style:
- I started with the MIZANI True Textures Moisture Replenish Shampoo. My hair was more than dirty after 2 months of crochet braids (gross). But this creamy, sulfate-free shampoo cleansed my hair like a charm, without making it feel dry or brittle.
- Next up I conditioned with MIZANI True Textures Intense Moisture Replenish Treatment. I needed a deep conditioning, but instead of sitting under the dryer, I actually just put a plastic cap and headwrap on then did yoga for about an hour, which did the trick.
- After I got out the shower, it was time to define my curls. I took about 3-inch sections and applied my normal go-to Devachan B’Leavin conditioner and brushed it through with my Denman brush to help define my curls (a step I wouldn’t have done with my shorter cut). I then grabbed my MIZANI True Textures Twist and Coil Jelly and raked about a pea size dollop through each section to define my curls even more. The product says its for coiling, but I didn’t coil or twirl the curls, I just raked. I did this in about 10 sections around my head.
- Finally it was time to blow dry with the diffuser attachment to set my curls, a key step in my wash and go regimen to lock in full and defined curls for days.
I’m really pleased with the results. My curls aren’t crunchy or sticky and I expect them to last all week. These products have definitely earned a permanent spot on my shelf!
